In Benin, the issue of drinking water supply, hygiene and sanitation is more relevant than ever, both in rural and urban areas. Although remarkable progress has been made in terms of access to drinking water, with coverage now reaching 77% in urban areas and 66% in rural areas, disparities from one locality to another persist and more than half the population does not have access to improved sanitation services.
